Library Reserves

Books

The library will place on reserve books, articles or other items owned by faculty  or the library that faculty would like to have available to students to check out for use.

Reserves Best Practices:

  • Place on reserve multiple copies of course text books. This helps to ensure that students who cannot afford to purchase books stil have access.
  • Place on reserve any  materials that you anticipate may have high demand. Any one resource assigned to an entire class would be considered high demand.

To place materials on reserve, please contact Tillie Henson at (409) 938-1211 x 205/448 or email at thenson@com.edu. Learn how it works.

Library Instruction

StudentsWhy have library instruction for your class?
It's the right thing to do for your students.

Reduces Student Anxiety
Library research is the #1 academic fear of college students. Library instruction has been shown to reduce this anxiety.

Encourages Students To Use Critical Thinking Skills
Evaluating the quality of the sources they find is frequently a new concept to college students. Library instruction can show them how to use critical thinking skills to evaluate their sources.

Saves Students Time
Literature shows that students require more library instruction than ever before to help them make the best use of their time and find the information they need.

Improves Quality of Student Research and Papers
When students use better quality sources, the quality of their papers improve. Some students have reported higher grades on their papers after library instruction made them familiar with library resources and how to best use them.

Reduces Student Perceived Barriers to Requesting Help
Once they've been in the library and interacted with a librarian, they feel more comfortable asking for help when they need it.

Amazon Wish List for Faculty

Amazon Wish ListCollege libraries rely on faculty input for the collection. No one knows better than you what you are teaching and which books will help your students the most. Help us make our collection even better!

We’ve already set up wish lists for some departments based on areas that we know have had research assignments for their students. If you do not see yours, just let us know and we’ll be happy to make one! We'll also come to your department for a demo (kpark@com.edu or x 201).
