How to Use JSTOR Understanding Series

What's in it, how to get started, and using primary texts with articles.

Get Started

1. Select a Work

Select the work that you want to read and research by browsing or searching for it by author or title.

2. Select a Passage

Click on the passage of the work you want to research.  

In the example below, you can see that each passage of Martin Luther King, Jr. speech has numbers to the side. These numbers represent how many articles there are on that page. Simply select the number to access the articles.

This great feature can not only increase your understanding of the work as you read key articles bout tit, it can instantly give you are articles you can use in your paper!

3. Research with the Articles

Research.  Look through the articles and chapters that popped up on your passage.  You can filter the results you’re seeing by date, content type or whether or not you have access to the documents.

When you find one you want to read, click the title to go to the article page (where the quoted passages will be highlighted in the text).
