How to Use Library Database AI

How to leverage AI in library databases to make your research easier.

AI Features in OneSearch

OneSearch has AI features available that can make your research easier. All of these features are available under Reading Assistant. You'll need to sign into OneSearch with your COM account to use them. 

Get Started with Research Assistant

  1.  Sign in with your COM account to get started.
  2. Select Research Assistant above the search bar. 

Ask Research Assistant

Once You've signed into your account, the Research Assistant page will load. There are several options on this page. Most likely you will just sue option one, but it's good to know about the others. 

  1. Search for your topic. Using Research Assistant, you can initiate your search like you would with ChatGPT with more natural language.
  2. If you just want to try out Research Assistant, there are a couple of example searches that you can select.
  3. One you've used Research Assistant, you can find your Research history on the left side of the screen.

Review Your Results & Get Sources

Once you've asked your question, Research Assistant will return your results with multiple options.

  1. The question that you asked will show at the the top of your result page. 
  2. The top five sources that most closely match your question will be listed. Selecting a source will expand it with a summary just for that sources. 
  3. You have the option of getting more results as well. 
  4. Research Assistant generates a summary of how the sources answer your question under the Overview of sources.
  5. Numbers listed next to statement in the summary point you to which source(s) support the statement.
  6. You have the options of giving feedback to improve results, copying the overview, or starting over. 
  7. Research Assistant helps you brainstorm other ways to ask about the same topic, generating new results. 
  8. Ask a new question.
  9. Your Research history sticks with you as you go.
