The Characteristics of Effective Learning: An Overview (10:38)
This program offers an overview of the characteristcs of effective learning, looking at playing and exploring, active learning, and thinking creatively and critically. It shows how newborns are natural learners as they develop and learn with all their senses. It shows older children who begin to plan their approaches to problem-solving and are increasingly able to monitor their efforts, to alter their plans when needed, to discard ideas that didn’t work, and to review how well things went and what they learned.

Description
This program explores how teachers structure classroom learning experiences in a variety of ways to better meet the wide range of students’ learning needs and to help students take an active role in their learning. It features high school teachers who have expanded their instructional approaches to include strategies such as journaling, small-group activities, student-led seminars, project-based learning, and exhibitions as ways to engage all students in learning.
