Notes From A Young Black Chef is Kwame's memoir. In this book, he reflects on being raised with the influences of both his mother's and father's different cultures. He also details the difficulties he faced working in the culinary world as a man of color and the added challenges he had to overcome of being both young and black. Readers will learn how through these struggles he was able to open multiple restaurants, open a catering company, and be on Top Chef all before he was 30 years old. Throughout his memoir, Chef Onwuachi includes some of his favorite recipes.
My America: Recipes From A Young Black Chef is Kwame's first cookbook. The recipes range widely and are based on his family history and travel. He includes recipes from Nigeria, the Caribbean, the American South, and the Bronx. Every recipe has a short paragraph introducing the dish and its significance to its culture's cuisine and Kwame's link to the dish.
