Former President Richard Nixon was born on January 9, 1913. These two books focus on Nixon's presidency and some of his most influential meetings.
The Nixon Tapes: 1971-1972. Nixon had a voice-activated recorder that captured thousands of hours of conversations between the years of 1971-1973. Until recently most of these conversations were never transcribed. Now with the hard work of Brinkley and Nichter, these conversations have been written down. The first collection of conversations focuses on some of the main events in Nixon's presidency; the China Announcement, the collapse of the gold standard, the escalation in Vietnam, and ending with his reelection. The editors have included a chapter on the people who are recorded and a timeline of the main events in Nixon's presidency.
The Nixon Tapes: 1973. Brinkley and Nichter cover the final year of recordings in this second volume. This volume includes some of the Watergate scandal fallout, a discussion about the Vietnam peace agreement, and other key events in the tail end of Nixon's presidency. Like the first volume, there is a list of key people recorded in the book and a timeline of key events that end with Nixon's pardoning.
