Atoms, Molecules, and Compounds (25:29) All matter in the observable universe—from a single blade of grass to a planet in a faraway galaxy—is made up of atoms, molecules, and compounds. This program introduces these minuscule building blocks in five sections: The Nucleus (protons and neutrons, energy shells, binding energy, fission and fusion); The Electrons (quantum numbers, spdf orbitals); The Elements (periodic table, valence electrons, ions and ionization energy, electronegativity, covalent and ionic bonds); The Energy of Atoms (exothermic and endothermic reactions, spontaneous reactions, Gibbs free energy, activation energy, catalysts); and Common Compounds (properties of sodium chloride and water, polarity). Chemical Equations (32:00) This program reinforces the basic principles of solving equations for chemical reactions. Step-by-step guides to combination, decomposition, single replacement, double replacement, and combustion reactions will give beginning- and intermediate-level students a working knowledge of formulation processes.

Essential Chemistry: Core Concepts Video Clip Library (03:10:32) Filmed at Widener University and the Chemical Heritage Foundation, this five-part series spotlights foundational aspects of chemistry that every science student needs to know. 5-part series, 22-28 minutes each.
Metals (26:14) Divided into five sections, this program provides a thorough overview of metals: Metals in Our World; Alkali Metals; Alkaline Earth Metals; Transition Metals; and Metals and Chemical Reactions.
Nuclear Chemistry: Inside the Atom (20 minutes) From the ancient Greek concept of "atomos" to today's fission and fusion technologies, this program guides viewers through the landscape of atomic theory and the hidden world of subatomic particles. Topics include the makeup of atomic nuclei and the factors that make them stable or unstable; the discovery and use of radioisotopes; and the difference between fission and fusion. Providing historical perspective, the video illustrates major discoveries about the nucleus and presents concise profiles of pioneering atomic physicists-such as Henri Becquerel, Irene Joliot-Curie and Frederic Joliot, Ernest Rutherford and Frederick Soddy, and many others. Using computer-generated models and examples from everyday life, each program illustrates the principles of bonding relevant to high school and college chemistry courses.
