Gender and Relationships: Male-Female Differences in Love and Marriage (43:00)
One of the most important journeys in human life is the quest for a satisfying, enduring love relationship. This search is nearly universal, and a lasting love is the goal of most people in most societies. This search has an unparalleled power and immerses us in many of the strongest emotions we will experience in our entire lives. This often humorous, often poignant, and always profound video explores the differences in the ways that men and women experience the love relationship. It goes beyond mere analysis and examines ways to make a relationship work better for both men and women. Some potential problems reflect important gender differences and needs, while others involve gendered expectations about the love relationship itself. The video features men and women from a variety of cultural and social backgrounds who provide eloquent -- and sometimes rueful -- testimony on how gender differences affect love, courtship, "couplehood," marriage, emotions, understanding, and sensitivity. In powerful and revealing interviews, they discuss what women believe is the most important thing a man needs to know about women, and what men believe is the most important thing a woman needs to know about men.The video begins in infancy, with the ways society constructs boys and girls with gendered ideas about who we are, what is important about us, and what we need. It goes on to illustrate how the differential treatment of boys and girls ensures that they will bring to a love relationship different gifts, needs, and goals. Our search for love relationships is also influenced by deep-seated ideas about how women and men "should" behave in courtship, love, and marriage. The video examines this socialization process by looking at "etiquette" guidelines for women and men.

o.com: Cybersex Addiction (48:00)
This startling documentary reveals how the internet contributes to alienation, especially in the area of human sexuality. In North America alone, more than 8 million people pursue sex online at least 11 hours a week. The internet has actually removed touch and human contact from sex. This film profiles people who find virtual encounters more liberating and exciting than encounters with "real" people. Nicole, a divorced 35-year old, lost her job and seeks entertainment in an adult chat room. She begins to spend more and more time there, seeking thrills and validation in cyberspace. "It's all about being raunchy and kinky because it is anonymous" she says. Alan, 56 and a successful lawyer, kept his obsession for pornography in check until his office connected him to the internet. He quickly became obsessed with orgasms online. "It just wreaked havoc with my working life, " says Alan. He started living entirely in the secret virtual world and was unable to work effectively. Eventually he sought help from an addiction clinic. The film introduces Dr Sylvain Bones who is publishing a major study on the online sexual behavior of university students. Several therapists are heard from, including Richard Davis, one of the first to research the pathological internet use. There is a strong lobby among psychologists to give cybersex addiction recognition in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) of mental disorders. This is a unique resource for classes in psychology, human sexuality and sociology.

Swipe Left: Dating Apps Have Killed Romance: A Debate (1:44:16)
Description
Every day, more and more people are turning to dating apps to find love. More than 49 million Americans—almost one out of six—have given digital dating a try. But are dating apps really designed to promote long-lasting romance? Apps like Tinder and Bumble make finding a date as easy as swiping right, while digital platforms like Match.com and OkCupid use specialized algorithms to help users find the perfect partner, regardless of age or personal preferences. Proponents of these apps and sites argue that they connect people with highly specific interests, whether it’s single parenthood, a gluten-free lifestyle, or a devotion to Ayn Rand. But critics argue that online dating is rife with sexism, racism, and misogyny, and that dating apps ultimately create a culture that prioritizes sex over committed and lasting love. Have dating apps killed romance?

Technosexual: The Improvements, Intrusions, Complexities, and Compulsions That Technology Brings to Modern Sexuality (2:25:15)
Understanding the latest in technology is an ever moving target, and a rapid one at that! Digital natives integrate the use of new technologies seamlessly into every aspect of their lives, including their sexual identities, expressions, courtship behaviors, and relationship formation. However, it can sometimes be hard for therapists to help when things go awry, because we may not speak this new and modern language. Older generations of therapists may have very different views on what constitutes healthy use of tech in one's sexual life where therapists who are digital natives themselves may find that the ability to keep their private and professional selves separate in a blurry digital landscape becomes a never ending question of what is right and what is right now? This session provides a basic overview of some of the sexual technology currently out in the world, what may be on the horizon and the joys and challenges new technology may bring to an already complex part of our lives.

War of the Sexes: Sexuality and Seduction (45:27)
Looks, personality, intellect, bank account—the reasons for attraction can’t be predicted. Or can they? This program investigates ways that men and women evaluate potential lovers and life partners, and shows how male and female criteria may be more similar than many think. Creating a relaxed, club-like setting in which a small group of singles meet, flirt, and discuss their goals, the program records each participant’s candid responses to the interaction, and to a barrage of additional images and questions designed to measure deeply ingrained preferences. Commentary from psychologists and a respected sex therapist provides analysis on the evolving romantic expectations of both genders.
