Education with Special Populations

According to the U. S Department of Education, special populations are students that face barriers to educational success.  Overcoming the barriers may require special attention to ensure students have an equal opportunity to be successful in their educational setting.  Students in this group include students in foster care, students with disabilities, English language learners, homeless students and gifted students.

Credo Reference describes Special Education as the program and environment through which students with exceptionalities are provided with accommodations that will enable them equal opportunity to reach their educational potential.
