The example announcements below are from a specific course. Each announcement can be customized for your course, just let us know what you'd like covered. 

In addition you can choose how many announcements you'd like for your students to receive:

  • Option 1 Just the Introduction 
    We can limit to just an introduction announcement so students know where to go for research help, as well as other basic library information. 
  • Option 2 Introduction & Best Sources
    We can limit to an Intro and a 2nd announcement on best sources for their course.
  • Option 3 Introduction, Best Sources & Specific Aspect
    We can send an Intro, 2nd announcement on best sources for their course and a 3rd announcement that is focused on a specific aspect of student research or presentation.

American History Guides

Access resources for your class in the American History Guides. There are guides for each specific era or time period on the guide homepage. We’ve collected articles, books, media, and primary sources for you.

Social Responsibility

The Social Responsibility in American History guides have great sources for your assignment and links to even more specific guides on topics like: 

There may be more movements included than what your assignment requires, so make sure to pick one that your instructor has specified. Also note that in some cases, books or eBooks may include only a chapter on your topic and that they may cover more than one era in American history.

Grab Citations from Databases & Tips from APA Style Guide

Did you know? You can grab APA style citations for your sources right from these and our other databases! We have a Cite APA Style guide that shows you how to grab citations from our databases, how to tweak them and even gives formatting tips like how to create a hanging indent in Word (it's easy when you know the tricks!)

If you are citing a website, zoterbib is free and very quick. Just type in your URL to get a citation in the style of your choice. 

Academic Writer (APA)

Great Resources for Primary Sources! [3rd announcement example]

I just wanted to make sure you were aware of some more great resources that you might find useful for your paper, including top databases for history and places to find primary sources. 

Sources for Your Papers

You’ll find links to all COM Library databases in A-Z Databases. Use the By Subject pull down menu to get the best history databases for your topic, or use this link: A-Z Databases: American History.

Our top American history databases are American History Online, Issues & Controversies in HistoryJSTOR and ProQuest History

    Spans more than 500 years of political, military, social, and cultural history to cover the American experience.
    • Great for background information, timelines and primary sources. 
  • Issues & Controversies in History
    Get an overview, timelines and use primary sources to analyze great conflicts in U.S. and World History from antiquity to the present.

  • JSTOR
    A digital library of academic journals, books, images, and primary sources. It covers more than 60 disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences and mathematics. It includes thousands of top academic journals from 1665 to 2015 (for certain titles); millions of primary sources, thousands of open access eBooks and high quality art images and media.
    • Great for scholarly articles. 
  • ProQuest One Community College 
    Covers civilizations, historical studies, military history, periods & events, US history and world history with full text scholarly journals, magazines, trade journals, books, reports, working papers, conference & proceedings, news, images, audio, videos and more.
