Getting Started with OER for Faculty

What is OER, how to implement and find OER for your courses.

Factors to Consider

  • Is the eBook available in multiple formats?
  • Does the eBook have content that requires active Internet access?
  • Can the student get a print version if desired? Is the cost reasonable? The length of the text may be a factor for cost.
  • Can the student highlight and take notes in an available format?
  • Can the textbook be adapted?
  • If it's a library eBook, does it have unlimited use? Can it be downloaded? Does the library own it or get it through a subscription? It it's a subscription our access might go away, check with the library.
