1990's Timeline

1990

  • Consumer advocate Ralph Nader delivers the Commencement address.

1991

  • Two Industrial Education Buildings are completed to house auto mechanics and diesel technology programs adding 25,334 square feet of building space to the campus.
  • The COM Press bldg was also built.

1992

  • COM celebrates 25th anniversary with an enrollment of 3,883.

1993

  • COM Foundation awards first Upward Bound scholarships to local middle school students (not be be confused with current Upward bound grant).

1994

  • New two year AAS degree in process technology launched.

1995

  • Texas Legislature expands COM's service area to include League City and Friendswood portion of Galveston County.

1996

  • COM opens extension campus at Clear Creek High School for credit and continuing education classes.

1997

  • COM celebrates its 30th anniversary with an enrollment of 3,624.

1998

  • PTEC program begins.

1999

  • Public Service Careers Building opens adding another 10,800 square feet.
  • COM wins national Bellweather Award for its partnership with local industry to create PTEC program.
  • Risk Management Institute started with $100,000 gift from Texas Mutual Insurance Company.
